Larry: Oh, hi, Jane! Yes, I’m still at it. What’s up?

Jane: 1) I’d like to consult you about digital cameras. Have you got a minute?

Larry: Sure! I won’t be leaving for location shooting for half an hour.

Jane: Well, Larry, my old 35-millimeter camera just broke down, and I need to take pictures for my son’s graduation next week. My friends say I should buy a digital camera. Would it be wise?

Larry: If you have the extra money, definitely! As you know, unlike a film camera, the digital camera has the advantage of instant feedback. You can immediately review your images on the liquid crystal display at the back. 3) Just think--for the first 12 years that I had been a professional photographer, I never really had a clear idea how my pictures looked until I had shot a whole roll, dropped the film off in a shop, and waited at least an hour for my prints. 3) That was until I shifted to digital photography three years ago. Now, I can instantly see the shots I have taken and, if needed, take corrective measures on the spot.

Jane: That’s great! I often waste so much film and processing fees on really awful shots!

Larry: And that’s not the only advantage of using a digital camera. If you ask me, 2) the most important is the freedom it gives to users to experiment. You can try so many shooting techniques that you would otherwise avoid because of the expense. And you can continuously refine those techniques because the display images are there for you to see.

Jane: 음, Larry, 내 오래된 35mm 카메라가 고장 났는데, 다음주에 내 아들 졸업식에 사진을 찍어야 하거든. 친구들은 디지털 카메라를 사야 한다고 말하고 있어. 현명한 생각일까?

Larry: 여윳돈이 있다면 당연히 좋지! 너도 알다시피, 필름 카메라와는 다르게 디지털 카메라는 즉석에서 확인할 수 있다는 장점이 있어. 뒤쪽 액정에서 이미지를 바로 확인할 수 있어. 3) 내가 처음 전문 사진사로 일했던 12년간을 생각해봐. 필름 전체를 찍어서, 사진관에 맡기고, 적어도 1시간을 기다리기 전까진 내가 찍은 사진이 어떻게 나올지 확신할 수가 없었잖아. 3) 3년 전에 디지털 사진으로 바꾸기까지 그랬지. 지금은 내가 찍은 사진을 즉석에서 확인할 수 있고, 필요하면 그 자리에서 바로잡아.

Jane: 대단하다! 정말 못 나온 사진에 필름이랑 인화료를 얼마나 쏟아 부은 건지 원!

Larry: 디지털 카메라의 장점이 그것 뿐만이 아니야. 2) 가장 중요한 건 사용자에게 시험할 수 있는 자유를 준다는 점이야. 비용 때문에 피할 수밖에 없었던 다양한 사진 기술을 시도해 볼 수 있어. 그리고 이미지를 볼 수 있기 때문에 계속해서 기술을 다듬을 수 있어.
